Dear Parents

The Wordworks Ready, steady… read and write Programme has been running successfully at MJS for a number of years. It provides young children from Gr R to 3 with the support they need to learn to read and write successfully. A tried and tested lesson structure and evidence-based materials enable rapid progress over relatively short periods of time in a fun and stimulating environment. The programme is delivered by trained volunteer tutors who work with pairs of children on a weekly basis for at least six months.

There is a great need to get the Wordworks Programme up and running again this year and as it is run on a totally voluntary basis, we need the support and commitment of our parent body and community members.

The Programme will be co-ordinated by a member of staff and all volunteers will receive training at the school. It is incredibly rewarding to see how the children who attend the Ready, steady…read and write thrive on the level of attention they receive, and they grow in confidence from week to week.

Please consider donating and an hour or 2 of your time during the week to help get this wonderful programme up and running again at our school.

If you are interested in training and helping, then please contact
Mrs Pam Bam via email on or call the office on 021 788 4118 and leave your details and we will get back to you.

If you have a friend or relative who does not have children at the school or who is retired and you think they might be interested, please inform us of their details so that we may contact them directly.
